Stasi Brothers Asphalt Donates Time For Snow Removal on Post Avenue

Friday, 18 February 2011

As residents are aware, the severe winter weather experienced in the northeast this winter, has wreaked havoc on village streets, clogging them with piles of snow and ice. This has been particularly problematic on Post Avenue. Stores have been difficult to access by deliverymen and customers. Motorists and pedestrians have had trouble navigating the narrowed street due to the snow piled up at the curb.

To assist the village and business community address this issue, the Stasi Brothers Asphalt Corp. donated its time, equipment, labor and materials to clear snow from our downtown business district.

Mayor Peter Cavallaro said, "I received a call from Joe Stasi a week or so ago indicating that he and his company would like to donate their services to assist the village, the Business Improvement District and our merchants by removing the snow from Post Avenue. I and the board were grateful for this very generous offer."

After figuring out how to handle the many logistical issues related to the project, it was decided that the snow removal project would take place on Friday, Feb. 4, and that the snow would be brought to the village's DPW yard, where it now remains in a huge mound.

Crews from Stasi Brothers, supervised by both principals of the company, Joseph and Louis Stasi, worked from 9 p.m. Friday night until 6 a.m. Saturday morning. In all, 10 Stasi Brothers employees worked 12 pieces of equipment to clear the sidewalks and street. Village personnel supervised the efforts.

In seeing the size of the wall of snow at the DPW yard, Mayor Cavallaro remarked, "I think that pile of snow will be here until July."

Joseph Stasi stated, "Our company and the village have had a long and collaborative relationship. We also have done work for and know many of the property owners and shopkeepers along Post Avenue, so we wanted to do something to assist them during this very tough winter. We have the manpower and equipment that can be put to good use, so we offered to help. We think it is important to give back to the community."

Cathy Moromarco, president of the Westbury B.I.D. said that the effort and generosity of the Stasi organization will help the merchants that have lost business as a result of difficulties caused by the snow for walking and parking on Post Avenue.
